The Art & calligraphy Wing |
This is where one of the longest pieces of calligraphy in the world, stretching over approximately 11 meters will
be displayed. Calligraphers from around the world, from China, to Syria,
Pakistan to Turkey, and Palestine
to Iraq
are exhibiting their masterly work in this wing.
In addition, the wing
features miniature
painting by Dr Fatima Zahra Hassan, copper painting by the Algerian-born French
Artist Mounira Lallali, pottery by Parveen Zuberi, and paintings by the Iraqi artist Bassem Mehdi.
The
artists will be holding live demonstrations on site, offering the public a
unique chance to get an insight into the process of creating a piece of art.
The world class photographer, Peter Sanders’ “in
the Shade of the Tree” collection based on the last thirty years of his
travels around the Muslim world will be on display. The collection has
been described as opening the door to “the unique, exotic lands of the
Middle East, Africa and India and into the vast world of Islam and
other religions.” The photographs are accompanied by quotations from
the Quran, sayings of the prophet Muhammad, other great scholars and
saints.
In addition, the
‘British Islam’ wing of the exhibition will feature Sanders’ latest
work, a photographic essay entitled “The Art of Integration: Islam… In
Britain’s Green and Pleasant Land”. The collection is currently touring
the Middle East and will be exhibited for the first time in the UK in
July at IslamExpo.

IslamExpo
hopes to give visitors a sense of the enormous talent that exists
within Britain’s Muslim community. It has devoted a whole wing to young
British Muslim artists. This is a vast and diverse exhibition. It
features the beautiful work of a large number of artists, including
Arabic graffiti by the young urban artist Muhammad Ali,
mixed media on canvas painting by Taslim Rashid, digital art by Jamil
and Samsul Islam, photography by Mudasar Rasul, and the beautiful work
of other talented young artists.

This
is a unique collection of original paintings which IslamExpo has
commissioned from the artist Bassim Mehdi, known for his multi-layered
paintings which fuse traditional Islamic architectural motifs, with
geometrical patterns and calligraphy. The paintings revolve around the
theme of the Islamic system of knowledge. The portraits introduce a
host of scholars who were pioneers in the different branches of Islamic
knowledge, from jurisprudence to philosophy, science to literature, and
art to science.
The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts Wing
The
Prince’s School of Traditional Arts specialises in the teaching of
visual Islamic and traditional arts. Work produced by the students in
their two year MA courses at the School will be on display, reflecting the range of crafts and principles learned and interpreted in the students’ own individual and inimitable way.
The Islamic Tree of Knowledge
There
will be daily workshops running for the duration of the event on many
of the techniques used in the Islamic artistic tradition, including
calligraphy, glass painting, fabric printing, geometrical design, tile making and arabesque.
